Math

Aiden completing 4 pages a day of Singapore 2B for review before moving to grade 3 math.
Aiden worked on a website called studyladder to practice multiplication tables.
Caileigh practicing addition/subtraction skills, preparing to move ahead with Singapore 1B.
Caileigh worked on a website called studyladder to practice addition and subtraction.

Science  We created water cycle posters.
We did an experiment with water in a jar to recreate how water evaporates into water vapor and then cools to fall as rain.

We watched videos about the rain cycle on Brain Pop Jr. and Discovery Education.
We made "rain cycle" posters.

We set up a rain gauge in our yard to measure the rainfall for 1 month.  We also had family members in different towns measure their water for the same length of time.  Once we received all the results, we created a bar graph chart to show the rainfall.  The kids completed a worksheet I made answering questions about the information we collected.

We've discovered that our northern flicker had babies!  We were observing some strange behavior from the birds and hearing some sounds that weren't typical.  Yesterday we found the hole that that they have created in the tree and we can see the babies stick their heads out and watch the mom feed it worms.

Social Studies  Learning about knights and samurai of the middle ages.  We made Coat of Arms shields.  The kids played knights and practiced chivalry.  We discussed how chivalry is a way of showing respect, eg. girls first etc.

Health and Career  Reading from Prudence and the Millers and discussing topics such as bicycle road safety, eye health, teasing, respecting people's privacy, thoughtfulness, staying safe in your home, water safety, lung health. We read about the food pyramid and have been checking each of our meals to make sure that there is an item from each food group.  We discussed fire safety and reviewed our home escape plan. Reviewed dialing 911.   Reviewed our phone number and address. We discussed our earthquake plan.

We participated in the Safeway Prostate Cancer Father's Day Walk in Kamloops.  We discussed why it is important to support organizations that raise money for illnesses.  The walk takes place at the BC Wildlife Park.  We had fun looking at all the animals.

Aiden's favorite was seeing the wolves.

The little ones enjoyed watching the grizzly bear cups wrestle.  They were orphaned in the Yukon and brought to the park when they were just cubs.  They are now a year old and weigh over 200 lbs.  They were so frisky and playful.  They also enjoyed climbing a huge tree, right to the top!

Caileigh liked seeing the swans, taking the train ride, and getting her face painted.  She also enjoyed watching the great horned owls in their habitat.  We were reminded of when we learned about them in Owl Moon.

The kids performed in the end of the year piano recital.  They each performed 2 songs.  Aiden was thrilled to play the Star Wars theme song as one of his selections.  Caileigh played Love Me Tender.

We completed our 8 week Running Club.  The final day we participated in a cross country run as well as some sprints and a tug-o-war.  Each child earned a certificate and was proud to have accomplished a good physical feat.

We went camping and the kids had a blast fishing, catching butterflies, swimming, bike riding and lot's more!
