We talked about what we know about God. We came up with words like love, powerful, strong, caring, gentle, etc. I challenged the kids to make a picture showing me what God is like. Caileigh chose to focus on love and had hearts, snowmen, and labeled it God is Love. Aiden created his picture to show an incredibly strong person with big muscles.
Math- Caileigh- learning double digit addition without trading written over top one another. She is really excelling at this as she can visually add the ones and tens together and this method is really making sense for her. She did more questions than I asked even! It is great to see something building on her confidence.
Aiden-same as last week. Working on memorizing those times tables!
Language Arts

Memorizing The Year by Sara Coleridge. We have memorized nearly half the poem so far.
Caileigh wrote 2 poems titled, The Dog.
Aiden wrote a poem about "I used to be, Now I am"
Aiden-cursive practice
Grammar-learning about interjections and the use of commas in lists.
Working on individual projects.........
Caileigh-watching videos on different working dogs. Drawing pictures of dogs. Writing dog poetry.
We have been talking about the different ways that we can find information. We can read books, look things up on the computer, watch videos, and ask other people. In order to expand on the idea of asking other people, I had Caileigh come up with some questions about dogs that she wanted to know more about. We visited with our neighbour who owns two Golden Labs. Caileigh was able to ask her the questions and get some great answers to her questions.
Aiden-created a poster on Bike Riding. Read some information online, and in books about bike riding. Aiden wrote up questions that he can ask the employees at our local bike shop. Next week Sean will take him to the shop, with his bike, and Aiden can speak with the employees and get his bike serviced.
Social Studies
Finished up our Canada poster.
In Story of the World we learned aboutFerdinand and Isabella from Spain. We learned how Priince Henry (Henry the Navigator) navigated by the stars. We studied western Africa and learned about the 3 kingdoms of the time, Ghana, Mali and Songhay. We made salt blocks to create our own buildings as people did in these times . We played a game to illustrate how Ghana became rich by taxing people with the gold and salt that came through their country. We used chocolate chips and raisins to illustrate the point! This led to discussion about Toll Bridges and how they work to charge people it's use each time you pass through.
Fine Arts-Piano
Caileigh- Practicing the difference between skips and steps. Starting C Major triads.
Aiden-finished learning all the scales. Now working on C Major triads, both solid and broken. Working on tonic and dominant notes.
Fun in the snow! We played a tracking game. We took turns hiding in the yard and the other people would follow the tracks and find the person. We even followed our cat's tracks and discovered where he uses the toilet:)
