Math- Aiden- Lesson 48, 49, 50-Partioning 15, adding 1 to a number, math balance equations, math balance and bead trading. We started on lesson 51, adding 10 to a number but were not "clicking" with the new concept so we practiced previous skills and will wait until next week to start fresh. I'm starting to observe certain behaviors in Aiden that I can see occurring when he is not understanding a concept. I suppose it is a way of "saving face". I am glad that I could finally understand this instead of feeling frustrated.
Caileigh- discussing odd and even up to 10. Simple addition using abacus and tally sticks.
Bible- Did Resurrection eggs. 12 plastic eggs filled with a different item and verse. eg. Bread, Matthew 26:26 While they were eating Jesus took a piece of bread, gave a prayer of thanks, broke it, and gave it to His disciples. "Take and eat it," He said, "This is my body." Also read a book on Easter and Leading little ones to God.
Language Arts- Daily reading and writing practice.
We brainstormed rhyming words and then Aiden wrote a poem.....
"Once there was a dog
who had a little frog
The frog had a bog
and a big, wet log!"
Aiden is working on reading "real" books. He read a Berenstain Bear book. Our caterpillars are getting longer! Aiden's has 15 circles and Caileigh's 13.
Raz kids.
We read a "Box Car Children" book.
Science- Aiden continues to be fascinated with rocks. This week he took his collection and washed all the rocks in the sink. He then put the rocks into piles, classifying them based on similar types. Aiden examined them using his magnifying glass and a flashlight. Aiden took a book titled, "My book of rocks" and drew pictures of the rocks and had me write names and descriptions. We were able to name the rocks by looking through piles of books that we picked up from the library. An example was "sandstone." Aiden would describe it as "crumbly", "sandy", "orangey", "dirty" and "not hard". We discussed different types of minerals and how some are formed through time and pressure "sedimentary" and how others are formed through heat "igneous". Aiden could not stop talking a mile a minute because he was so fascinated with this activity!
Social Studies- For the kid's map work they had to make a map and then tell a story to go with their map. They told me the story and I wrote as quickly as I could........
Aiden's story titled "Aidenville"
The days were so peaceful. The birds were chirping in the air and everyday was a lot like the other day. One day a family was driving along the road and how good the town was. It was a very good town but while they were driving along they heard something. It was a duck running along the road. It was trying to get to the other pond to see his friends. So they stopped and let the duck cross. The days were good happily ever after. The End
Caileigh's story titled, "My Favorite Camping Trip"
Once upon a time there was a happy family. One day we were driving on the road. We were going on a camping trip. Then we saw a store and then Mom saw the campsite. We drove into the parking spot. We were so happy. We got there finally. It was a very, very good campsite not like I imagined it to be. It was the prettiest campsite that I had ever seen and we loved that campsite. The End
