Book Club
-Pippa read "Show and Tell" by Robert Munsch. The girls each got to share their own show and tell items. Caileigh talked about her pen pal in Japan and shared some items that Akane has mailed to her.
-Pippa read, "Peace in Mrs. Fox's Classroom" and the kids discussed what "peace" means. After our family lesson on peace, I told the kids I wanted them to find a way to share with me what peace means to them from a biblical perspective, rather than a worldly one.
Caileigh created an acrostic poem and drew a picture. (She used the Bible to help create ideas for the words)
-Pippa read "Frederick" by Leo Lionni. The kids had a "philosophy" discussion about the book. Each child shared a picture with the others. Mikayla shared a ballet picture she drew.
-Pippa read, "Franklin's Christmas Gift". The kids each shared a christmas tradition. They learned how to use the blackboard format for writing on the computer.
-Pippa shared with the kids the difference between fiction and non-fiction. She read a fiction book about frogs and then a non-fiction book about frogs. She showed the students how to use Pebble Go. Each student has chosen an animal to research and do a small report on. The kids will share their reports at our next reading club.

-Writing comparative pieces, eg. which do you prefer chocolate or potato chips.
-Practicing writing persuasive papers. We had a mini debate. I had Caileigh write a 3 paragraph paper on why horses are better than Lego. Aiden wrote the same on why Lego is better than horses. I had each read out their paper and then gave them a chance to rebuttal what had been said.

Completed an assignment on re-writing a multi-paragraph report on Champlain.
Completed an assignment by putting together three written paragraphs to form a report. It covered John Cabot, Jacques Cartier and Samuel Champlain.
Caileigh surprised me by writing me a winter poem.

Completed two experiments about light. One learning about how light travels in a straight line, another learning about the size an object is in a shadow in comparison to how close/far away the object is.
Discussed facts about light: light moves quickly in a straight line. Learned terms such as transparent, translucent, and opaque. Learned about reflecting, retracting and absorbing.
Learned about natural sources of light eg. sun and artificial sources eg. lamp.
Watched videos on light from Brain Pop and Brain Pop Jr.
Completed a note booking page about the days learning each lesson.
Learning about sound. Watched videos on Brain Pop, Brain Pop Jr., Discovery Education.
Played games on BBC to show how pitch changes.
Completed an experiment to show how pitch varies.
Learned that sound carries through air, solids and liquids.
Learning about sound waves and drawing different sounds using colours and wave sizes.
We discussed and completed a Venn diagram showing the similarities and differences in light and sound.
Social Studies
Working on an assigned project on a chosen Aboriginal group. Caileigh has chosen the plains people in Canada. I gave them a list of questions that I want them to answer in their project. Caileigh is independently researching the topics and then putting the findings into a poster form for presentation.

Caileigh surprised her Dad by taking initiative and raking the leaves in the yard. She worked for nearly two hours.
Caileigh serves her family through helping in the kitchen. She made muffins for breakfast and served it with yogourt. She made crustless quiche for dinner.

Caileigh did preschool with the boys. She organized a craft, sang songs, read them books and served them snack. It was really helpful to me!
