Alex

Bible

Reading Morning Devotions by Charles Spurgeon as a family and reading through Mark

-Online church as a family

-Individual devotions

-Our church has received permission to run a 4 week kids program in February.  Alex is attending.  The program topic is the Lords Prayer.  Includes songs, lesson, games.

-working on memorizing the Lord’s Prayer

-our church is having a countdown to spring.  1 scripture a day for the month of February 


-the boys are learning to serve through dog walking for a neighbour and being on the look out for ways to serve, such as shoveling a driveway for a neighbour that wasn't able to (not part of the business)

Alex has been attending Sunday school since the beginning of February as our church has permission to run kids programs.

Our church put on an Easter walk at Davison orchards.  There were 7 stations and videos or scriptures to watch as you learned about the Easter story.

Discussed PH-familiar with this from pool/hot tub maintenance.

Social Studies

Lego BC history class 

Each week through reading stories, watching videos there will be a lego challenge and sharing time.  The class runs twice a week through April

Week 1-Alex and Jordan worked together to create a scene between Captain James Cook and Chirf Maquinna.  They write a paragraph to go along with the learning.




Virtual Barkerville field trip from Aboriginal perspective.

We are additionally reading through “though time immemorial”.  We will be comparing traditional aboriginal life with residential schools.

Reading “Fatty Legs” about a girls experience in residential schools.

Reading “Stranger at Home” about one young girls experience with residential schools and the impact of returning home.

Read I’m not a number about residential schools.

Reading about Traditional Ecological Knowledge and answering questions on worksheets.

 


Learning about aboriginal self government



-completed a report on Canada in English

Develop a plan of action to address a selected problem or issue.

The boys and I brainstormed issues and problems within our community.  They came up with ideas like drug problems, lonely people from Covid, homeless individuals etc.  We then discussed if there was something we could do to help with the solution.  The boys decided to use the pop bottle money to create packages for the homeless.  This along with some food will be delivered to the food bank.  The boys received the sweetest thank you notes after bringing their donation to the food bank.  We have been handing out packages for the homeless as we see needs. 


Human Rights

-Read Every Human Has rights by Mary Robinson

-Discussion on our different rights as citizens.  What does God say our rights are?  Discussed the "mask" Vs. "Anti-mask" dilemma regarding how we see our rights.

Watched Civil Rights and Student Rights by Brain Pop

Alex sketched out an idea for a poster and then experimented with Paint 3-D and made a poster about human rights.

-watched Canadian government on Discovery Education
Interview project
-in order to understand the different levels of government and the organizations of them, the boys interviewed three different people.  They first brainstormed questions and then interviewed a lawyer about the judicial system, an RCMP officer about the law enforcement and finally a returning officer with elections BC.  It was helpful for the boys to understand these job in more detail and how they work together to support our province/country.

Health/Career

Long Term Goal- Last March the boys expressed a desire to have a Nintendo Switch.  I told them if they saved up the money then they could get one.  They saved all money that they received over the next 10 months.  They shoveled driveways did chores and worked hard at this long term goal.  They finally had enough to buy it and are now the proud owners of a Nintendo Switch.

-large group games played at church group

-reviewing FITT principle

-much discussion on communicable diseases through Covid-handwashing, social distancing, etc

-weekly shoveling to earn money (earned $300 to date)

-focusing on eating a variety of foods for good nutrition

Alex attended a workshop on internet safety through heritage.  He also learned about internet safety through his English class.

Spanish

-Alex researched a Spanish holiday and created a poster.



ADST

Alex is working on becoming a good baker.  He made a double batch of banana bread and was able to use his math skills to add 1 3/4+ 13/4 and then simplify:)

We tried 2 methods of egg dyeing.  Silk ties and food colouring.


Alex played the violin at the seniors home for his great grandma.  Covid is going through the home but so far his great Grandma is ok.

Jordan has been attending Jr Youth each week.  They play games, listen to a lesson and engage in small groups.

Jordan drew out a plan of an idea he had to create a bunker on minecraft.  He has been working to develop this on minecraft

Jordan keeps a sketch book and is always adding to it.

-Jordan is taking Cartooning class #2 with Brad Gibson.  Weekly classes for 6 weeks.

We received a card making kit and the boys have been working on making Valentine's Day cards.

Piano lessons and weekly practice.  Theory homework each week.

Jordan is practicing for a recital in June.


Jordan has been composing a song.  His teacher is helping him write it down.


Jordan has been taking weekly private drum lessons through the Pipeband since November.  He is learning to play the snare drum.  Starting at the end of April he is attending a group drum lesson where he is able to listen and participate when able.


Mikayla

Bible

-Reading through devotions by Charles Spurgeon as a family and reading the book of Mark.

-Attending LIT meetings at the church bi-monthly-through this Mikayla helped out on 2 separate occasions at outdoor church events.  She painted props for the Easter walk, handed out lunches, supervised kids and did whatever tasks were needed.

Mikayla helped  clean the church.

-Attending Jr Youth at the church weekly.

-Our church has received permission to run a 4 week kids program in February.  Mikayla is helping in the preschool class.  I am teaching the class and she will be assisting me in going through the curriculum to choose appropriate lessons, craft, games etc.  She will help execute the plan and work directly with the preschool kids.

Sunday school has continued so Mikayla helps out each week.  She either helps me in the preschool room or in the late group.  Last week she led a small group discussion/prayer with some kids.

For Mikayla's first project she uploaded a design that someone else created onto TinkerCard.  She was then able to paint it and will be adding a magnet to it.

Mikayla made book marks for Caileigh based on a book series they read.  

Mikayla is meeting with the drummers of the Pipeband weekly to begin practicing to play for seniors home this summer.  They practice their routines for the various tunes.  She is learning new sets in the event that the Okanagan Military Tattoo is able to take place this year.

Health

Caileigh and Mikayla have been making it a goal to get out for long walks several times a week.  They walk to the library and back with a wagon full of books.

Mikayla enjoys bike riding for exercise

-Discussions and focus on a variety of eating to ensure good nutrition-trying to put more thought into variety of nutrition.....not just carbs:)

The girls and I ran/biked from Vernon to Wood Lake.  It was a gorgeous 16.5 km trek
