Math- Studying 9 + number. Working on these addition facts mentally without the use of Abacus. Aiden did well adding 9 + the 2 digit numbers eg. 9+25 or 39+7
We learned the game "corners" and played each day of the week. It practices addition facts totaling 5, 10, 15 or 20.
Language Arts- Printing practice. Writing practice. Reading practice. Raz Kids. Explode the code. We read aloud "The Adventures of Reddy Fox" by Thornton Burgess and are reading through poetry by A.A. Milne and Robert Stevenson
Science-Plants- We're reading about plants. We made a plant chart for our indoor seeds. Each day we count how many Nasturtiums, cucumber and sunflower plants have sprouted and add tally marks to our chart. We are wondering if our nasturtium seeds are faulty because it is day 9 and we haven't had any sprout yet. We have 9 cucumbers and 8 sunflowers.
We have been working in our garden planting some seeds and waiting another week before planting others.
We planted bean seeds indoors in a jar with a damp paper towel. We enjoyed getting to see the plant up close.
Animals- We went to our friend's house and watched the release of their butterfly! We also got to study the Chrysalis from the second caterpillar.
We went on a nature walk and took our binoculars to study the birds. We saw Robins, Crows, Starlings and Ducks. Our bird book arrived and we are excited about discovering the name of our mystery bird in our backyard. The sound it makes is very distinctive and we can't wait to learn more about it.
Social Studies- Big kids working on map work while Mikayla works on her shapes puzzle.
PE- We went on several walks, one including a local waterfall. Auntie Misty was visiting and we spent time outdoors at the park and in the yard.
