Math
Caileigh-continuing with addition and subtraction practice up to 40. eg. 6+4, 16+4, 16-4, 30+10 etc.
Aiden-continuing with area, and comparing areas. Also continuing with multiplication practice.
Bible We learned about the missionary, Lottie Moon, from China. We learned about foot binding practices and why they were banned. We learned about Lottie's character of bravery and perseverance.
Language Arts
We worked on a review unit in spelling.
We started a fun unit for each child. Aiden is doing a project on Lego. He learned fun facts about who invented Lego. Different dates like when it was invented, when it came to the United States, etc. There were 2 building challenges he had to complete. One was to create a Lego model that looked like the Denmark flag.
Caileigh has started a project on butterflies. One activity she did was to paint 1/2 a butterfly, fold the paper over to create a symmetrical pattern.
Science
We completed our unit on Matter. We finished putting together our notebook with narrations, pictures, illustrations, experiments etc.
For the last year, we have been hearing a unique bird call in our yard. We called the bird, "the mystery bird", as we were never able to get a good look at it. In the last few weeks we have managed to catch a glimpse of this bird and find him in our bird book. We then went online to find more pictures and to compare his call to the ones online. We were thrilled to figure out that we have a Northern Flicker resident. They are part of the woodpecker family. We have been having so much fun watching this bird and just the other day we discovered that there are two of them!
Social Studies
In "The Story of the World", we learned about the aborigines of Australia. The kids painted their faces to look like the Maori warriors. We made a snack with popcorn and peanuts and pretended that the peanuts were moths, which the Australians enjoyed as a crunchy, roasted snack.
We discussed China as we studied Lottie Moon the missionary. We made Chinese paper fans.
Fine Arts
We worked on painting things that we could see. We painted flowers from a bouquet that we were given.
Health and Career
Aiden and Caileigh baked a cake for Sean's birthday. I gave them the boxed cake mix and supervised while they read the instructions and made it themselves. The oldest three decorated it.
So great! I love the Lego flag and the face paint (and expressions!)
