This week we rowed, "Mrs. Katz and Tush". It was the story of a relationship between a Jewish widow and a young boy. Larnel gives Mrs. Katz a cat. They celebrate Passover together.

Math

Caileigh-Completed Singapore 1A. Activities included addition, subtraction, patterns, shapes,

Playing games to get efficient at finding addition facts up to 20.

Right Start math- finding congruent shapes.

Aiden-practicing 4 digit subtraction and addition equations with trading.

Playing games, finding patterns.

Working with multiples to memorize the times tables.

Aiden is geting good at 1x's, 2x's, 5x's, 10x's, and 11x's.

Bible-We focused on Passover and Easter. Completed our lent devotionals.

We read, "The Lamb" a beautiful book illustrating how Jesus is our lamb.

Watched "Prince of Egypt" about Moses, the passover and exodus.

Watched an animated video of Christ's life and death.

We watched "Shalom Sesame, It's Passover Grover."

We made matzah, an unleavened bread. We read books from the library about Passover.

We made resurrection cookies.

Caileigh has been reading her kids Bible every night before bed. She loves to share with me the scriptures that are important to her. She has requested a Bible like Aiden so I'll be sure to get her one soon!

Language Arts

Printing practice, copywork, spelling unit.

Grammar-We are working on memorizing the poem, Mr. Nobody.

We learned several Yiddish words. I had both kids narrate to me what Passover is as well as the summary of the story, Mrs. Katz and Tush.

Science We read a book about cat and learned lot's of interesting facts.

We went for daily walks, picking pussy willows, looking for and trying to identify birds. We are on the look out for signs of spring and they are starting to appear!

When making our unleavened bread we discussed the difference between bread with yeast, and bread without yeast. Yeast causes dough to rise by creating gas bubbles in the bread.

Social Studies

In learning about relationships and loving our neighbor, we made muffins and pictures to take to our widowed neighbor.

We discussed persecution of minorities and what the bible says about treating people poorly because of race or beliefs.

In the story, "Mrs. Katz and Tush", Mrs. Katz comes from Poland and immigrates to New York. We colored a map from both places. We learned about immigration.

We watched videos of myself when I was 6. The kids had fun seeing how different/similar they were to their Mom. We looked at pictures of them when they were younger and watched videos of them. It was fun to see and discuss all the changes that have taken place in their lives. They have accomplished many things since they were babies! We talked about how much more they might accomplish when they are older.

Fine Arts

We learned how to draw cats using two different methods.

We blew eggs and then painted them. We had lot's of scrambled eggs for lunch!

The kids also attended a library activity where they dyed hard boiled eggs.

Using an idea from my friend Rachel, we created an outdoor Easter garden. I look forward to doing this next year indoors and planting grass, moss, etc. to make the garden look festive. This year we just used the materials we already had, thus the pink and purple tomb as I borrowed Caileigh's hand painted flower pot.

Using the Mavis Beacon Typing program, the kids have started 15 min. daily typing lessons. In one week I can already see an improvement in their hand positioning, and speed. They both started around 1wpm, but there have been times when Aiden has reached 25wpm. They are only working at home row with e and i.
