This week we rowed "My Side of the Mountain."

Math- Aiden working on multiplication of several digits, eg. 9x187 etc. 
Caileigh- same as last week for both.

Bible "What a wonderful ting it is for a nation to know and keep God's laws!"  Proverbs 29:18
 My side of the Mountain had a theme about contentment.  We learned what it means to be content.  We had two opportunities this week to discuss contentment as each child had a moment of jealousy.  We talked about how we might not have everything we want, but we have everything we need.

Language Arts
 Spelling Unit
The kids started writing out a poem titled, "The Year".  They are creating a booklet and each day they write out the verses of a month and add illustrations.
In My Side of the Mountain, the author says, "When I was young in the mountains......"  Each child wrote their own short story using a similiar theme.

{Aidens}

Science 
Aiden and Caileigh made a chart showing the differences and similarities between two chosen animals.  Caileigh compared horses and dolphins and Aiden compared sharks and snakes.
We read a book on snakes.  We added snake to our animal chart.
We read The Magic School Bus's book on sharks.  We read books on sharks. We watched videos on sharks from Discovery Education.

Social Studies  We learned about the provinces that are in the Appalachian mountain region.

We studied the provinces of Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI and
We started a Canada poster and have added these provinces along with their flags, provincial animal and provincial flower.  We read books out of the library about each province.  We watched a video from the library on Canada.  We watched a TV special about The Bay of Fundy and learned about the highest tides in the world.

History-We learned about China's forbidden city.  We read a book from the library on China's Last Emperor.  Aiden painted a Chinese scroll.

Fine Arts  We created with molding clay.  Favorites were Caileigh's spider and Aiden's snake eating a piranna.

Health and Career-  We read Prudence and the Millers about habits.  We discussed bad habits and thought about good ones that we can work on developing.  We discussed procrastination this week and learned what it means to work hard and efficient.
