I spent some individual time with Aiden and Caileigh this week. We talked about what area of the Bible they would most like to learn about. We discussed the importance of daily Bible reading. We are working towards building a diligent habit of daily bible reading. We discuss how the Bible transforms the mind and changes our thinking.
Caileigh would like to learn more about creation so she is reading from Genesis each day. She discusses with me what she has read and what she thinks God could teach her from the reading.
Aiden is interested in learning about heroes and courageous men so he is reading from Joshua.
Reading about David Livingstone, from 2 sources, "For those who Dare", and "Missionaries and the Millers", and completing a note booking page on facts about him.
Reading about missionary Alvin Frey.
Caileigh decided that she wanted to raise money for charity so she has been creating artwork that she wants to sell at her "art sale". She has already sold 3 drawings.
She also wants to have a bake sale to help raise money and is in the process of planning out this idea.
Math
Caileigh-Money, adding and subtracting.
Reviewing weight and length measurements cm, m in, ft, oz, lb, g, kg.
Time to five minute intervals.
Determining the time 20 mins from now, 3 hours from now, etc.
Aiden-
Review of Singapore 4A
Fractions and Decimals. Converting back and forth between the two.
Decimals up to thousandths place.
Adding and subtracting decimals.
IXL practice of multiplication and division.
Language Arts
Daily typing practice.
Weekly spelling unit.
Daily writing assignment.
Daily note booking covering various subjects/topics.
Assigned reading-Individual reading and narrating (To encourage the kids to read a variety of different genre, the assigned reading is to expose them to a variety of different books that they might not choose on their own. This does not include all the reading they do during free time)

Cursive
Dictating sentences to Aiden so he can write them in cursive. He still wants to visually see a sentence written in cursive before he writes it so we are practicing being able to visualize it in his mind and then write it out independently. We are trying to build confidence in this area. During his daily practice, I am also having him look at the word written in cursive, then covering it and writing it independently.

Discussed the importance of supporting "small business". We discussed what would happen to a small town like 100 Mile if a huge department store would open. What would happen to the small businesses? How can we support our community? Discussed the different resources that help support 100 Mile and Powell River. How are they different? The same?
Health/Career
Each child wrote a note booking page on how they have changed from "then" to "now". They looked at different aspects such as looks, abilities, knowledge, etc. We then discussed how they imagine they might be different 10 years from now. We talked about how it is important to have a vision for who or what we want to become so that we can work towards that goal and pray for God to help us.
It recently came to my attention that we needed to begin discussing hygiene in a more in depth manner. We had a group discussion about how we could renew our morning hygiene routine and have added some aspects such as face washing and deodorant. We talked about the important of building good hygiene practices. We have a checklist posted in the bathroom so each day they can review the steps and ensure they are getting everything done. We also reviewed the importance of hand washing in terms of preventing the spread of germs.
We have been playing a lot of Carcassonne, and Settlers of Catan Junior edition. These games are great for teaching strategy, fair play, etc.
Aiden and Caileigh take turns independently making pancakes every Saturday morning. It is such a treat for me!
