I asked the kids how we know that God is a loving God.  I showed them how to use a concordance.  They were shocked at how many verses the Bible has on love!  We went through some and then I asked the kids to either make a picture, or write a paper showing me that God is love.

I know God loves me because He died on the cross. The Bible tells us that He created us and He cares for us and that God will never leave us.  He made the world and He saves us with His loving kindness.  He is faithful, a refuge and He is righteous.  He has never failing love.

    Here are some verses that say that He loves us.  "For God so loved the world that He gave His only son" and "whoever lives in love, lives in God."  Those are only a few that tell us that God is love.  I know He loves me the most because He died on the cross.

Science

-Learning about domes and arches.  We conducted several experiments to test the stability or arches.  We created an arched bridge using K'Nex.  We created artwork.  Learning about how tunnels are built and watched a video on it.

Learning about how bridges move.  Looking at pictures of the Johnson St. Bridge in Victoria.  Looking at the new design ideas for a more modern bridge.  Built a moveable bridge out of K'nex.

Learning about foundation and how important it is.  Read Matthew 7:24 about how Jesus is our foundation and rock.  Learned about the Leaning Tower of Pisa.  Watched a video on it.

Learned about skyscrapers.

Looked at and compared the pros/cons of different building materials and in what conditions each material is best used.  We talked about the type of materials that would be best used in a cold climate, and those in a warm climate.

We had friends over for more discussion and exploration on bridges and structures.  We reviewed man made vs. natural structures.  We talked about different purposes for structures.  We read a book showing different uses and designs of bridges/structures.

I challenged the kids to experiment with different materials, toothpicks, spaghetti, marshmallows and june jukes.  They were to build a 3-D shape and decide which materials would be best for building a larger object. We reviewed the names for 3-D shapes, cube, rectangular prism, etc. Some built 3-D cubes, one built a 3-D rectangle.  They had the idea of building with jube-jubes on the bottom for stability and weight, and then moving to marshmallows on the top.  They had a lot of fun experimenting with this yummy project.

We had a bridge building challenge.  We broke up into three groups and challenged the kids to build a bridge that could span 30cm and hold weight.  We gave a variety of materials to build the bridges with and the kids worked for an hour putting together their models.


The PreK-K team did awesome with both a strong and creative looking bridge.


















































The boys team built an extremely strong bridge by adding top and under supports.






















The girls added support in the form of columns and also added some decorative touches.

-Learning about Limmerick poetry.  We held a Limmerick Tea Party.We learned about the pattern AABBA.  We read a variety of limericks.  We wrote one together as a group.

 We had a group day "show and tell" with friends.  Each child shared something of interest.  The audience practiced good listening and respect during the presentations.
