Caileigh-Term 3

Bible

-Continuing with Psalms
-Bible and Nurture
-Completed learning the 10 commandments in sunday school.  Now understanding that all have sinned.  Seeing that we need Jesus to bridge the gap between us and God through a turning to Him, and away from sin.

Math

-Working with cms, ms, kms, and converting between them all.  (adding, subtracting, greater than, less than, word problems)
-working with grams and kilograms (adding, subtracting, greater than, less than, word problems, )
-working with mL and L (adding, subtracting, greater than, less than, comparing compacities, word problems)
-money (adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, word problems)
-fractions, (adding, making wholes, subtracting, simplifying, ordering, finding greatest, least, equivalent.
-working with time to minute.  Figuring out how many hours, minutes from one time to the next, duration of activity, etc.
-Geometry- looking at shapes to determine polygons, angles, right angles, sides.
-parrallelogram, rhombus, rectangle, square.
triangles-equilaterla, isoscles, scalene, right angle.
3D shapes-cube, rectangular prism, triangular prism, triangular pyramid, rectangular pyramid, cylinder, cone, sphere.


Language Arts

Writing

Caileigh wrote a three paragraph report about Spring.
-Daily note booking related to science, socials, bible, health or other related topics

Spelling
-one unit a week competing a spelling test on Fridays
-beginning two units a week until end of school year.  Tests on both units on Friday.

Grammar
-sentence diagramming
-topic sentences and titles
-verbs and verb phrases
-subject and verb agreement
-past forms
-diagramming direct objects
-diagramming predicate nouns
-using raise, rise, lay and lie
-using set, sit, let and leave
-pronouns

Cursive
-daily cursive practice and writing cursive from dictation

Typing
-10min practice a day


Learning about Haiku poetry.  Caileigh wrote a haiku poem on kittens.

Reading Club

-Drawing illustrations to go with the book, "Who Spilled the Milk?"


















-Pippa read poetry to the kids and then each of them shared a poem or scripture verse.
 Mikayla shared the poem, "Hearts are like Doors".

February Assigned Reading
-Jackie Robinson and the year of the Boar


Social Studies

-Reading through, "Let's call it Canada" and discussing the meaning of various place names within BC and Canada.  Notebooking on several.

-Studied the maps of where each people group lived.
-Compared each native group through discussion.
-Learned how the makeup of each group was effected by the climate and area in Canada in which each group lived and the resources available.

We are learning all about weather.

Learning About:
-Identified the definition, "what is weather?"
-Discussed atmosphere and how it effects us, how many layers their are.
-Covered temperature
-Discussed climates and seasons and how the movement of the earth relates.
-Learned about the different types of clouds
-Completed two experiments.  One to show how clouds form and one to show how clouds release rain.
-Covered wind speed and direction.
-Learned about the impact of weather on living and non living things
.-Covered precipitation in the forms of rain, snow and hail.
-Weather such as tondos, hurricanes, thunder and lightning.

Discovery Education temperature, climate and weather
Completed quizzes after each video and received 4/5 or 5/5 on each.

Report
Completed a 3 paragraph report on a weather topic of choice.  Caileigh wrote about hurricanes.

Ongoing:

We are recording the temperature, ceiling and type of weather each day for a month and then plan to graph our findings.

Health & Career

Caileigh and I discussed the physical changes that happen to a girl during the time of puberty.  She had lot's of good questions and it was a good thorough discussion.

Watching Brain Pop videos and discussion on nutrition (entire section except for eating disorders) and Sports and Fitness (entire section except for steroids).  Discussions to follow.

Writing a persuasive report on why eating healthy is the wisest choice.  Writing a persuasive paper on why eating junk food is a good idea:)

PE

3-4 weekly walks to explore Walker Valley.

Weekly gymnastic lessons.  Training for the year end performance.

Daily bike rides.

-30-60 min. trampoline jumping daily.

Fine Arts

Caileigh participated in the Festival of the Arts memorizing a five page pieces.  She received a gold star for her presentation.
