Aiden-Grade4-Term2

Bible

-Reading Bible and Nurture (one chapter a day)

Completed a note booking page about a bible character of choice.


















All the kids brainstormed words for an acrostic poem and then put it together.







Math

Multiplying fractions.
Finding values of dividing fractions and whole numbers eg. 1/4 / 2
Dividing fractions
Ratio
We determined that Aiden has 17 more lessons to complete until he is done 5A.  I have told him I want the book completed by Christmas and that he can choose how he gets it done.  He could choose to get it all done quickly, and then have a little math break, or he could slowly work through it.  He is creating a plan on how he plans to get it done.


















Starting Singapore 5B

-decimals up to thousandths.
-adding/subtracting/multiplying/dividing decimals.
-expressing fractions as decimals

























Language Arts

Weekly writing assignments

-Worked through practice FSA examples.
-Writing comparative pieces, eg. which do you prefer snowboarding or sledding.

-Practicing writing persuasive papers. We had a mini debate. I had Aiden write a 3 paragraph paper on my Lego is better than horses.  Caileigh wrote the same on why horses are better than Lego.  I had each read out their paper and then gave them a chance to rebuttal what had been said.

Aiden's paper to show what peace means to him.  He wrote out Phillipians 4:6-7 and also created symbols and diagrams to show how worldly peace differs from godly peace.

-Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nihm
Enrichment Activities:  -Answering comprehension questions,
-finding definitions to a list of vocabulary words,
-Answering true/false questions
-doing a mini research page on field mice,
- creating a map of the farm that is the setting of the story,
-writing a three paragraph report on whether or not Aiden sided with Nicodemus's beliefs or Jenners..

-Completed a re-writing assignment about Jacque Cartier.
-Completed a re-writing assignment on a multi-paragraph report on Samuel Champlain
-Completed a three paragraph report by combining the previously written paragraphs.  Included John Cabot, Jacques Cartier and Samuel Champlain.

Discussing references in the Bible to light and darkness.  Who is our light?  How do we reflect this?  Reading psalm 144.

Completed two experiments about light.  One learning about how light travels in a straight line, another learning about the size an object is in a shadow in comparison to how close/far away the object is.

Completed an experiment to see light refracted.

Discussed facts about light:  light moves quickly in a straight line.  Learned terms such as transparent, translucent, and opaque.  Learned about reflecting, retracting and absorbing.
Learned about natural sources of light eg. sun and artificial sources eg. lamp.

Watched videos on light from Brain Pop and Brain Pop Jr.  Watched video on light by Magic School Bus.

Completed a note booking page about the days learning.

Learning about sound.  Watched videos on Brain Pop, Brain Pop Jr., Discovery Education.

Played games on BBC to show how pitch changes.

Completed an experiment to show how pitch varies.





















Learned that sound carries through air, solids and liquids.

Learning about sound waves and drawing different sounds using colours and wave sizes to represent different sounds, then the kids explained why they drew it the way they did.















We discussed the similarities and differences between light and sound and created a Venn diagram.












Social Studies

Working on an assigned project on a chosen Aboriginal group.  Aiden has chosen the subarctic group in Canada.  I gave them a list of questions that I want them to answer in their project.  Aiden is independently researching the topics and then putting the findings into a poster form for presentation.

Health/Career

-10min. Typing practice daily.

Aiden has been teaching his brothers to play UNO.
















Aiden taught Mikayla to make pancakes completely independently from me.








Aiden surprised his Dad by taking initiative and raking the leaves in the yard.  He worked for nearly two hours.


The kids are helping me create Christmas cards this year.....they made over 50!

{Piano Report}

























Aiden played Happy Birthday for Poppa's 99th birthday.  He also entertained by playing some background music before the party started.

















Participated in the Christmas piano recital and played, "Do you hear what I hear?".


PE

Daily skating 1-2 hours.  Aiden has improved dramatically in his skating ability by being able to practice every day.  He has now been practicing playing hockey by shooting the puck, passing, handling, etc.

















Aiden received a snowboard for Christmas and has been daily practising this skill.  We go to the school once a week so he can practice on bigger hills.
