Language Arts-
We learned about action verbs for grammar. We completed worksheets.
Spelling review of past units. Completed another unit.
Journal writing.
I wrote out the starter, "I like....." and the kids had to complete the sentence with as many ideas as they could. eg. "I like lego, I like reading" etc.
The kids read aloud was Mouse on the Motorcycle and they listened to the whole story on audio CD.
We finished up our mini projects on the kids topic of choice. They each have pictures, activities and a brief summary of why they wanted to learn about the topic, some interesting fact and what they liked most about learning about their topic. We put the findings together into a book format.
In Story of the World we read about Odyssesus and the cyclops. I encouraged the kids to narrate a sequal for me to write. First we wrote out some of our planning ideas. One a piece of paper we wrote, "how, why, where, who, and when" We filled in the areas with the ideas we wanted to use for their story.
Caileigh's Story
"Once upon a time there was a man named odyssesus. He conquered many places. He sailed to an island that was so beautiful that he landed on it. He found a cave and he went in the cave. When the cyclops came in he ate one of the soldiers. One night Odyssesus poked the cyclops in teh eye. The cyclops yelled in anger. Odyssesus sailed away. The End
Aiden's Story
"Sixteen years after Odyssesus landed on the island there became a battle between the cyclops and Odyssesus's army. The battle started 1700 years before Christ on December 31st. To defeat the Cyclops they would need 100 sharp sticks with pointed ends like the one that Odyssesus used t poke out the cyclops's eye. One by one each cyclops was hit like an arrow in the eye and got poked by the pointed sticks. The battle was won by Odysseus's men. The battle ended January 31st. The End
We read a story called "Sam and the Cart". It was about a boy who had Cerebral Palsy. We talked about how the kids in the story treated Sam and how he must have felt. We brainstormed how the kids could have reacted differently.
