Caileigh-Recently Caileigh purchased a "Grow-a-Crocodile". You place an egg in water and out hatches a crocodile which continues to grow for several days. As soon as "Snappy" hatched from his egg, Caileigh measured him. She continued to measure him for several days. At times she would make a prediction of what she thought the next measurement would be and then would compare to his actual size. Snappy started at 5 cm. and finished growing at 8cm. She wrote down her findings and we made a chart to show his growth.

Aiden- Finding perimeter of objects. Finding perimeter using word problems. Reviewed diagonal lines, vertices, horizontal and vertical lines. Introduction to using geometry tools eg. T square, triangle, drawing board. Found and drew all the diagonal lines in a pentagon and hexagon.

After math, Aiden asked if he could use his geometry tools to make a plan for a new lego creation. His idea for a new plane came from a book he had from the library. He drew up his plans and then put together the model. He calls it the "Stratoship H.22"

Aiden was also excited to receive a letter from LEGO informing him that a picture of one of his lego creations will be featured in an upcoming magazine. Before Christmas Aiden asked me to take a picture of his creation and he mailed it into the magazine. What a fun surprise to have been choosen!

Caileigh was also excited to have made the front page of the paper this week. Her picture was from the cookie decorating at the library that she went to with Grandma last week.

With Sean off work, we were able to set up our recycling center. The kids went to the recycling depot and picked up the materials then came home and set it up on our deck. It is great to see how much material we have already accumulated. As homeschoolers, I imagine our paper bag will be full in no time. I just have to find a way to sneak some of that paper in.......maybe a paper shredder?

Last Valentine's Day I had the kids write "Today is February 14th. It is Valentine's Day." I had the kids write out the same sentence this year and it was fun to compare their writing changes. The first picture shows Aiden's and the 2nd shows Caileigh's.

The theme for the school read-a-thon is "Around the World". We have been taking out books from the library from different countries such as Australia, China etc.

We put together a mini passport. I showed the kids an old passport of mine and then they glued little pictures of themselves and information like their name, age, country, and place of birth. We pretended to board a plane and fly to China where we then read a book about the country. As the kids read a book from a certain place, I stamp their passport.

We're continuing to read Wisdom and the Millers as well as White Fang.

Fine Arts- We traced our hands with pastels all over a paper and then painted them in using primary colors. We painted the background in a secondary color of choice.

We went swimming in Williams Lake.
