We were able to enjoy the beauty around us and appreciate God's creation. We watched birds flitting about in large groups and we threw bird seed to them. The kids ate their snack and drew pictures of the scenes around them. We tried to think of things that we could see because it is winter that would be different in other seasons. (eg. you can see farther because of the lack of leaves) We talked about the changes we would see in the coming months. We're looking forward to seeing the valley covered in wild flowers!
We came home and got busy on our art project. We painted trees using pastels, and then added back ground with water paints. We talked about how unique and different all trees are. There isn't a wrong way to draw them. We discussed warm and cool colors and which we saw on our walk. Aiden opted to use cool colors to recapture a winter scene. Caileigh opted to use a combination to produce a sun set.
We also completed a pointillism art project. We reviewed the artist, Georges Seurat which we had touched on during grammar. Aiden made a scene with a tree, Caileigh made a flower. This project has been ongoing due to the time and detail it requires.
Thursday, Grandma took Aiden and Caileigh on a field trip to the recycling depot, along with some other homeschoolers. They really enjoyed it and were able to bring home some fascinating facts. A glass bottle can live in a land fill for a million years! The turnaround time for a plastic bottle from the recycling depot, to the store, can be as little as 6 weeks!
After the tour, the kids came home and drew a picture of the depot. Aiden created a recycling truck out of lego.
Since moving to 100 Mile, we've been undisciplined with our recycling habits. We re-use a lot of items for homeschool crafts, storage, etc. but we lack a good recycling system. The kids are going to help us re-establish a good system that everyone can be involved in. Maybe we can get organized during Sean's days off next week.
We completed 2 chapters in history and the kids colored the corresponding pages and narrated their learning to Grandma.
The kids completed their books on wolves and dolphins. They shared their learning with Grandma.
Aiden and Caileigh went to a cookie decorating activity at the library.
We've been reading Wisdom and the Millers and loving it!!
We've been busy making cards, completing crafts and reading.
Our read aloud is White Fang.
We watched a documentary on wolves and dogs.
What a beautiful place to explore - and good to take the time to do so.
