Math
Caileigh- Worked with adding 1, 10 and 100 to a number. Discussed place value.

Reviewed time to the hour and 1/2 hour. We read a book about making predictions. We can make predictions based on looking at the facts and trying to create patterns.....for eg. we made a chart on our fridge showing the time we eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. After several days we could look for patterns and make predictions based on these. It turns out we are fairly predictable!
Aiden-worked with perimeter and rectangles. Aiden was given a problem where he had to create 3 different rectangles that had a perimter of 16 inches (American program......I am teaching him both inches and cm.) We created equilateral triangles using the geometry tools and figured out the perimeter of various sized triangles.

Bible- "Never forget to be truthful and kind." Proverbs 3:3
Bible reading. Reading through Wisdom and the Millers.
Started our devotionals on Advent.

Language Arts- Each wrote out a book report independently. It included facts like author, illustrator, number of pages and the thing they liked most about the book. They also completed some reviews for the school's myquest program.
We completed a spelling unit including dictation, alphabetical order.
We completed a worksheet on action verbs. We looked at the difference between set and sit. They narrated a story.
They completed two reading comprehension worksheets.
We completed a worksheet on figuring out if a statement was fact or opinion.
Our read aloud was Mrs. Piggle Wiggle. The kids thoroughly enjoyed this book! They have been having fun saying, "what would Mrs. Piggle Wiggle say about that problem?" and coming up with their own ideas. I also found on online quiz that asked 10 questions about the story.
Kids listening to, "BFG" by Roald Dahl on audio cd.

Following along in Come Sit By Me we made a world journey to Australia. We read, "Don't dig so deep Nicholas" by Troon Harrison. We discussed how Australia is found in the southern hemisphere and so is often referred to as "down under". We found Australia on a map. We discussed marsupial animals and learned facts about kangaroos, dingos, etc. The kids already knew some facts from listening to their, "Jonathan Park Goes to the Zoo" audio Cd that includes facts on 100 different animal. We also travelled to Africa and read, "The name of that Tree" by C Lottridge. Caileigh wrote a review for the book on myquest.

They have been reading between 1-2 hours each day. They are enjoying a new series called, "A to Z Mysteries". Caileigh can read an entire chapter book in an evening.
Caileigh has also been enjoying reading to Mikayla before nap time..........

Science - We learned about the life cycle of a frog.

I hid 18 frog fact sheets around the room and the kids went on a scavenger hunt to find the sheets that would reveal the answers to their 18 questions. They love playing this game. (I find the worksheets on superteacherworksheets.com) I think they also like finding the smarties that I hide as well! They also watched a video on warm/cold blooded animals.

Social Studies- We completed The Story of the World Volume 1. One of our activities this week was talking about how archeologists find materials and then must put the items back together to try and study the civilization. We took clay bowls that we had made earlier in the year and broke them into pieces. The kids had to try and put them back together. We had to use both glue and tape and it was a difficult task. Aiden managed to get his back together but Caileigh had some difficulties.

We completed a map worksheet from Canada Map Book 1 (we're about 1/2 way through) about the capital cities in Canada. We looked at urban sizes and had to answer questions based on this.

Fine Arts -We talked about Faith Ringgold, an artist who creates memory quilts. We took a piece of paper and drew squares around the paper as a border. Inside the kids drew a picture of a memory. We used pencil, crayons and felt pens.

Aiden's (it is still incomplete....he drew snowboarding as a memory and included airplanes in his which he says is a future goal)

Caileigh's (it shows her and friends playing on the swing set)

Enjoying a snack with friends.
