The Fur Trade
Read:
The Fur Trade by Robert Livesey
Activities
Skills and Process of Social Studies-Describe significant events of fur trade
    -Aiden wrote a letter showing pros and cons of working at the fur trade in a creative writing assignment.
-created an idea web showing 4 skills that an explorer would need to survive long treks and create maps.
Completed a quiz on the fur trade.  Aiden scored 18/20.  The quiz consisted of 15 multiple choice and 2 written questions.

-We visited Fort Langley and completed 5 activities of the fur trade eg. making barrels, making iron sculptures, panning for gold, carrying fur bales and pretending to trade at the store, etc.




















Railroad
Read:
-Canadian Railroad by Robert Livesey
-The Underground Railroad by Christina Dendy
-The Last Safehouse  by Barbara Greenwood
-The Kids Book of Canada's Railway
-The Last Spike in the CPR by Sandra Dooling

Activities:
-Created a model of the Victoria tubular bridge out of Lego
-Watched videos on discovery education about the building of the railroad
We Read, "Follow the Drinking Gourd".
-We watched a video on youtube about harriet tubman and listened to the drinking gourd song.  Discussed the underground railroad.
-Aiden created a poster showing reasons why he would support the building of the railway.  We had a mock debate where he shared his ideas and Caileigh showed views in opposition.
-Aiden wrote and produced a radio drama with themes from the underground railroad.


Gold Rush

Completed a quiz about the gold rush.  Included a time line showing important dates.  Aiden received 15/15.

Health and Career

-creating a weekly physical goal and will assess next week
-working at increasing water intake
-Creating school goals on when and how to complete a list of social studies projects
-Completed a weekly planning sheet.  Aiden had to write down the projects assigned this week and when they were due.  He had to fill out how he would work on the project each day in order to complete it in the time given.  I am trying to teach independence and a good sense of planning.
-Writing a 3 paragraph paper on biking and it's advantages.

Cooking Class.  We made Chicken Ranch Casserole.















Horizons Health:
-Reading about the effects of smoking and drugs on the body and mind
-Looking at pictures of people whose physical appearance has been destroyed by meth abuse
-Learning a variety of ways to say, "No" to peer pressure
   (discussing when and how each method might work the best)
-Learning about feelings.  Feelings effect physical body.  Feelings effect thinking and vice versa.  Learning about feeling statements.  "When you.....I feel......."  Writing examples in Horizons student book.
Discussing positive and negative ways to show emotions and feelings.  Healthy ways to communicate feelings.

PE














Weekly swimming.
Group games at Awana.

Biking
Daily bike riding 30-90min.-Riding additional 5 km/2xs a week.
-Can ride independently to the elementary school
Practicing skills.
Learning to go online library site and reserve books on biking.
 Reading books about mountain biking and BMXing.
Watching biking videos.
Creating a "bike park" in the yard complete with sign and a variety of jumps and obstacles.

-Wrote 3 paragraph paper on biking.
